CV Boots

CV ('constant velocity') boots are flexible rubber joints that connect the axle shafts to the wheels, allowing for turning and up-down movement over bumps while the axles continue to supply constant drive power from the transmission. Over time, CV boots can wear down and eventually split open exposing the wheel joints inside, allowing the grease to escape and road debris to enter the joint, which can quickly degrade it severely. Replacing a worn or split CV boot is relatively inexpensive, and can mean avoiding the need for a far more costly axle shaft replacement further down the line.
